The conversation files you pick (iMessage CSV, SMS backups, Facebook Messenger JSON) are read inside the app, on your device. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. Close the page and they are gone. The mirrors, the counts and the printed packet are made on your device from those files.
If you bring in a saved My Damn Self case file, it is opened on your device with the password you type. The password is used once and not kept, and the file is not uploaded.
What you write yourself is kept in this browser (or this app) on this device until you erase it: your notes, the marks and answers you give on each mirror, your memories, your relationship maps, what you wrote under "What I want", and — if you use Talk it through — your key, your loaded reading and that conversation. None of it is sent to us. The button Erase everything this app kept, at the bottom of the page, removes all of it and signs you out.
You make an account before you read a mirror. It holds your email address and your password (stored by the account service in hashed form). It holds nothing else — no messages, no mirrors, no notes. It is the same account as My Damn Self, so one login works on both.
The account service is Supabase, which runs the database both apps share. Like any web service it keeps ordinary request logs, which include the internet address a request came from.
Sign in, open Your account, and press Delete my account. That erases your email and password from the account service, and — because the account is shared — it is deleted for My Damn Self too, along with the records My Damn Self keeps against that account. It cannot be undone. It does not touch what is kept on your device; use Erase everything this app kept for that. You can also email info@mydamnself.com and ask for it to be done for you.
The app counts that certain things happened, on which day: the page was opened, the sample mirror was opened, the help on exporting messages was opened, the steps on the way to a mirror were reached (Start was pressed, the file picker was opened, files were added, the files could be read), mirrors were made, a packet or manual was printed, a My Damn Self file was brought in, Talk it through was used, an account was made, someone reached the sign-up step. Each count is a word and a date. It is sent without your login even when you are signed in, and it carries no name, email, account number or anything from your files.
If you use Tell me to send a note, it carries the words you typed, which part of the site you were on, and an email address only if you choose to type one so you can get an answer. It is sent without your login. Only the owner of My Damn Mirror can read notes. Email info@mydamnself.com to have a note you sent deleted.
Talk it through is optional. If you use it, whatever you type or say there — and your reading, if you choose to load it — is sent straight from your device to Anthropic to get an answer, using an Anthropic key you provide. We never receive it. Your reading contains quoted messages and the names of people in them. Nothing is sent until you press Send. Anthropic's handling of what you send is set by your agreement with Anthropic and Anthropic's privacy policy.
If you press Talk out loud, your browser's own speech-to-text turns your voice into words before anything is sent — Apple's in Safari, Google's in Chrome — under their own terms.
The website is served by Vercel. Like any web host it keeps ordinary request logs, which include the internet address a request came from.
